What I talk about later in the post is very important, but the statement, “It’s YOUR email list”, is the real meat of this post.  If you take anything away from reading the post, let this be it.
You don’t own Google Reader. You don’t own Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Instagram. You have zero equity in all of these services.  None, zilch, nada!
They can be gone in a flash and leave you scrambling as you try to figure out how to retain all the hard work put into building a following on this or that digital marketing channel.
It’s great — in fact, recommended — that you make use of many different mediums for online marketing.
However, at some point you have to ensure your time and financial investments are secure.  The way to do that is by making your email list the centerpiece of your online communications strategy.
